Policy on Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment


        Sakthi College of Arts and Science for Women, Oddanchatram, firmly believe that sexual harassment is a violation of the fundamental rights of women to equality, dignity, and personal liberty. The institution is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and harassment-free environment for all students and women employees, in accordance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.


Definition of Sexual Harassment

As per the Act, sexual harassment includes any one or more of the following unwelcome acts or behaviours:

  • Physical contact and advances
  • A demand or request for sexual favours
  • Making sexually coloured remarks
  • Showing pornography
  • Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature

Objectives

  • To prevent discrimination and sexual harassment of women employees and students by promoting gender sensitivity and a culture of mutual respect.
  • To comply with the directives of the Supreme Court of India, requiring all institutions to establish and implement policies against sexual harassment at the workplace.
  • To constitute an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) for the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment and gender-based violence on campus.
  • To provide a clear mechanism for reporting complaints, ensuring confidentiality, fairness, and timely follow-up procedures.
  • To enforce strict disciplinary action against offenders, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
